The PND Journey

I know it took a grand effort to get here. The internet can be almost as large and lonely as postnatal depression itself.

Every PND journey is different. This is another part of your journey. I hope it is of some use to you as you travel forward.

For me, the journey began with the painful recognition, acceptance and admission of my own symptoms. Only then was I able to make tentative steps towards recovery.

The information that I have gathered in my journey may be useful to you, or to someone you know. It is with understanding of the difficulties of sharing the experience of postnatal depression that I have created this site. The information published here is based on my personal experience, current literature, and anecdotal evidence from other women. It does NOT replace the expertise of a medical professional.

I hope that these pages will continue to grow as I further develop my own knowledge of PND. Your suggestions, questions and comments are freely invited.

very sincere love and thanks

A journey is seldom made alone. The journeys undertaken by my partner and family have been, perhaps, even more difficult. They have been aware for the duration of what has been happening and not happening. I really wasn't here for some of it.

So I honour my partner and daughters for the strength with which they have endured their journey, and mine.

And onward...

Trish

Postnatal depression is also known as postpartum depression, or depression after childbirth. Some people take it to include the hormonal 'baby blues' and perinatal psychiatric disorders. Others don't.

I have used the term with which I'm more familiar - postnatal depression (PND). This is not meant to exclude other terms but is intended to draw together a range of understandings.

As far as I'm concerned, information allows for informed decision-making. The resources on this site are indicators towards other discoveries on your personal journey.
